At Arpal Gulf, we consider ourselves to be very fortunate to be part of such a dynamic and rapidly growing Middle East economy. The pace of change in the UAE, in particular, never fails to amaze us.
The latest development could be the most exciting of them all. Dubai has agreed a deal with US startup company Hyperloop One to evaluate the construction of a near-supersonic transport link that could slash travel times from Dubai to the Emirati capital Abu Dhabi to minutes.
A feasibility study has been agreed to evaluate the delivery of the world’s first hyperloop system across the country; a vacuum-sealed pod transportation system, which could slash travel times between Dubai and Abu Dhabi – a 150 kilometres (90 miles) journey – to around 12 minutes.
If successful, the system could later be expanded to link the UAE with neighbouring Gulf countries so that a trip between Dubai and the Saudi capital Riyadh – currently two hours by plane – could be completed in under 50 minutes.
The fascinating video below illustrates how it might work.
